What is Hippotherapy?
The term “hippotherapy” means treatment with the help of a horse. During a Hippotherapy session the patient will receive Physical Therapy, Psychotherapy, Occupational Therapy.
Specific riding skills will not be taught because Hippotherapy is just a kind of medical treatment. The method uses multidimensional movements of the horse to facilitate dynamic postural control in the patient, to improve trunk mobility and strength, sensory deficiency. Hippotherapy includes formal exercises on horseback guided by a Physical Therapist to achieve specific goals.
What is Therapeutic Riding/TR/?
Therapeutic Horseback Riding has been around for centuries – since the time of the Greeks and Romans. TR is not treatment. A Therapeutic Horseback Riding programe may use Therapists as consultants. During a TR session a riding instructor will teach riding skills.
Therapeutic Horseback Riding is also know as Recreational Riding.

Disabilities Impacted
Individuals of all ages with a wide range of physical, cognitive and/or emotional disabilities benefit from Therapeutic Horseback Riding and Hippotherapy. The types of disabilities and conditions that can benefit are: Amputations, Cerebral palsy, Down Syndrome, Autism, Brain Injuries, Emotional Disabilities, Mental Retardation, Multiple Sclerosis, Muscular Dystrophy, Visual Impairments and other disabilities.

is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing Hippotherapy to physically, emotionally and mentally challenged individuals through the use of specifically trained and selected horses. USTREM was established in 2001 in Sofia to improve neurological function and psychological development of disable people.

The treatment team works jointly to maximize the benefits of the hippotherapy. Volunteers are always needed as sidewalkers and backriders. The physiotherapists guide the therapy.
We use 2 selected and specifically trained horses.
